Tariffs and zoning of paid municipal parking lots to change as of April 1
"Rīgas satiksme" informs that pursuant to a Riga City Council resolution the tariffs and zoning of municipal parking lots will change as of April 1, 2015 (see the map in the annex). The goal of these tariff and zoning changes is to reduce the number of cars in the city centre while urging residents to change their car driving habits and to use alternative means of transportation.
Amendments to the „Binding Regulations on the Management and Use of Paid Municipal Paring Lots” provide that starting from April 1, 2015, the price of the first hour in zone A will be EUR 2.50 and for each subsequent hour it will be EUR 3.00. In B zone, the parking tariff will be EUR 2.00 for the first hour and EUR 2.50 for each subsequent hour. In zone C, EUR 1.50 will be charged for the first hour and EUR 2.00 for each subsequent hour. In zone D, the first parking hour will cost EUR 1.00 and each subsequent hour EUR 1.50. The tariffs in Old Riga, in zone R, will be also increased. Here the first hour will cost EUR 5 and each subsequent hour will cost EUR 8.
Meanwhile, the prices of residents’ parking cards will not be increased. On the contrary, Riga city councilors voted to round down the existing tariffs. As a result, starting from April 1, 2015, the price of a monthly parking card will be EUR 70 for zone A, 55 EUR for zone B, EUR 40 for zone C, and EUR 25 for zone D. In the most expensive R zone the price of the card will be EUR 85.
The objective of paid municipal parking lots in Riga city is to optimize the organization of traffic (particularly in streets with intensive public transportation traffic), to streamline the flow of passenger cars and to organize their parking so that Riga residents and guests could drive closer to the necessary destinations and park their cars in specially designated places. At present, "Rīgas satiksme" manages 5016 paid parking lots.
